SINGING HARMONY — How to sing and practice vocal harmony

In this video I teach people how to sing harmony. Just like everything else, you have to start with the basics. The basics to singing harmony in a 3 chord song is singing just two adjacent notes. In the key of C major, you can sing harmony by just singing with the C note for a C Chord and a F chord, and singing D note for a G major chord. Or, you could sing C note for a C major and F major chord, and sing a B note for a G major chord. Why? Because the note C is common to an F and C major chord. The notes B and D are found in a G major chord.

There are many possibilities of singing simple harmonies when you consider that a chord consists of 3 notes. You don’t have to sing the C note for a C major and F major chord. Instead you could sing a G note for the C major and G major chord and then sing the F note for a F major chord. This is so simple once you have this concept in your mind. The other nice thing about this is that the notes are always next to each other. They are only one full step apart from each other which makes it very easy to vocally move from note to note.

Practice singing just the improvised harmony with your guitar or piano on simple 2 and 3 chord songs. Then practice singing harmony with these same simple 2 and 3 chord songs found on YouTube. When you practice singing with YouTube songs then you really get a feel for singing harmony.
