Big thank you to the girls Tara and Bryony for allowing me to video their latest singing lesson with me! 🙂
Until recently, the girls would sing 99% of the time in their head voice. This was mainly due to lack of confidence and sticking to their comfort zones.
I wanted the girls to start exploring their chest voices more and even touch into *gasp* some belting!
They have been doing so well and I am very proud of them! They still get nervous sometimes and this can cause False Vocal Fold constriction which makes belting very difficult. Watch the following video if you don’t know what the false vocal folds look like: . They are the masses of thick membrane on top of the true vocal folds.
In the video you will see an exercise I teach them to help get rid of the constriction. I was taught this exercise when I attended the Estill Levels 1 & 2 in Newcastle last year and it is SO helpful! I’ll do a proper video on this soon to show you guys how to do it properly.
The lesson was 60 mins long but i’ve edited it to around 10 mins.
I mention about a ‘door exercise’ for posture at 4.50 mins. Here is the link to that:
0 – 2.32 Quick warm up
2.32 – 5.13 Chest ex (BUH), posture, belting ex (YEAH)
5.13 – 7.43 True & false vocal folds, Estill constriction/ retraction ex
7.43 – End – Song (Celine Dion ‘Surrender’)
Any questions, let me know 🙂
