KTVA – Where The PROOF Is In The Singing
Wow, I cannot believe you just said that about being a baritone! My singing
teacher back in the day told me I was a 2nd baritone and that I should give
up trying to be a rock singer, as most or all of them are tenors… I’m
guessing? So, that being said, the band I was in was kind enough to tune
down a whole step for me…crazy right! So glad I watched this! Thanks,
agw.
A good example is Paul Davis…his talking voice was big time baritone, gut
his singing voice was awesome tenor! Thanks, agw.
Sorry, another singer that stands out with a deep talking voice; is Axle
Rose, yet he sings high! Great points you have made in this video! I too
have been convinced…to this day…that I’d always be a 2nd baritone! The
band I was in from 87-91 wants to do a reunion in 2015 and it would be sooo
cool if I could show-up and tell them that they do not need to tune down a
whole step! Thanks…again, agw.
Hey man, this is great, thanks a million for the videos, very encouraging!
I wondering if you could have a listen to one of my videos of my songs and
maybe give me some feedback of my vocals please? I would really appreciate
it!
Anyway, thanks again :)
im a baratone and i hate it can you make me a first tenor thanks jd

explode. Thank You. I’ll definitely check the lessons.
don’t wear headphones.
Wow……… Also R.I.P headphone users….
So f´ true!! A singer’s got to have guts to sing! Finally I hear sb well
known and with PLENTY of knowledge on the subject say it. Couldn’t agree
more.
I once played a song at a bar in Dublin while the paid musician was on a
break. Everyone went quiet, and when I went back to my friends they
pretended they’d been outside and hadn’t heard. I had no idea that I was
singing out of key. I could sing a tune, but I don’t think I even realised
that there was supposed to be some kind of relationship between the notes I
sang and those I played. Or maybe I assumed I was just hitting the right
notes.
A few years later, I must have accidentally hit a note I was playing and I
noticed how the sound of the voice and guitar seemed to reinforce each
other. It gradually developed from there. Now, 20 years later, singing in
tune is easy. I always hated my voice. I used to tighten my throat beyond
belief to get compression, my jaw would get so tight the joints would ache,
the muscle under my chin would get exhausted (Though singing NEVER gave me
a sore throat. Not once. I still don’t know why) and I’d practice by
screaming along to stuff that was well out of my usable range, just
assuming I had a thin, weak tone. Again, it was an accident that helped. I
was practicing to a practice guide (I believe it was the Jim Gillette one.
Good exercises, but almost no explanation) and watching a movie and I kind
of lost interest in the tape and relaxed. When I got back into it, I
started pushing as hard as before, but for that first note, forgot to tense
my entire neck! The difference in tone was amazing, so I immediately gave
myself an excited pat on the back and started trying to find ways to hit
the high notes without tightening my throat. That’s where I’m at today. If
I wasn’t in some serious doodoo with the tax-man, I’d buy this vocal course
right now. I know the Youtube videos don’t actually give any real info
away, and that’s Ken’s right. We all gotta eat. But there’s plenty here to
convince me that the course would teach me all the things I took 20 years
to learn for myself and much more. People tell me I’m a good singer and
have a good voice, but I know it’s not true. I know I’m better than most
people who don’t practice. I know I’m better than most people who have been
singing for a year. But if I’d had someone there to tell me what I was
doing wrong, and to keep reminding me, I’d have got to where I am now in
less than 2 years EASILY. Unlearning my bad habits will probably take
longer than learning properly in the first place would have. I hope all
this resonates with a few of y’all.
i have the voice from the lead singer Freddie Mercury from queen hear my

stage of being afraid?
Is There Really Such Thing As “Stress Free Singing”?
I see many vocal coaches (and their students) promoting the idea that
“there should be no stress while singing” and therefore frustrating the
heck out of singers who think there is “something wrong with themselves”
because they can’t, over night, achieved this “stress free” singing.
(this also gives a vocal coach “tribal knowledge” to keep you coming back
to them as the only one who has the answer to this elusive concept)
This is nonsense and here’s why:
Singing is like a sport. And with any sport, it’s not the absence of
stress, it’s the management of stress that makes a great athlete.
Think of it like this:
When Lionel Messi is going to goal, do you think his body is “stressed?”
(Anyone who says it isn’t has never played a sport before).
But Lionel has learned the art of training his body and mind for that
moment when it’s time for him to step on the gas, take on 3 players and
score what “looks” like an “effortless goal.”
But you can be assured, it was not done “without effort” or without
“stress.”
Lionel achieved this through training his technical abilities as well as
building stamina and muscle memory to achieve this consistency.
Now it is true that some styles of singing require less stamina than others
and therefore can be accomplished with less strength training.
In other words, singing a light pop song requires very little “strength” in
the sound whereas singing a heavy rock song often requires incredible
strength and stamina.
This is also true for those (like myself) that want to push their “limits”
and abilities to be all they can be. This of course requires more “effort”
and technical training.
With that said, there are many stages to building this “stamina” and it’s
ok to “find yourself” as one first starts with “damaging street singing”
(with total stress) and going through the different stages of learning how
to manage this stress away form the voice through correct training.
If I didn’t show the different stages of this process, and only showed
“perfection”, people would never learn that these people are all human,
having to work on their craft just like yourself.
This is a hell of a video, right? It’s entertainment value alone is worth
watching, right?
Have a good day, right.
i nearly jumped out of my seat when you started that first note.. scarred
me xD
I sound like Lucy Ricardo, but that doesn’t stop me. I sing at the top of
my lungs with my doors locked ,windows closed, and of course, no witnesses.
🙂
Nice channel, thanks for sharing. Peace.
i understand the concept that anyone can hit the notes, but my issue is
tone. no matter how hard I try, the natural tone of my voice is not
pleasing, and I know many others with that problem. take guitars for the
example, you can hit the same notes just as well on a taylor as a first
act, but TONE. is there any way to control that?
Hello Ken, I have a question about your course. I’m not tone def, but I
have an issue with pitch and pitch control. It seems some things I can
sing well and I’m on pitch, but other times I’m all over the place and
usually flat. Is there anything in your course that helps deal with that
issue as well as just how to use your throat properly? I mostly hear the
slight pitch stuff if I record myself singing and then play it back.
Acapella: forget about it.
I love your enthusiasm ken, that’s what it’s all about. Very interesting
and informative. Thanks man
I try opening my throat and stuff but ugh it won’t work I wish that I could
just call him or something so he can just fix my mistakes
Hello Ken. I was just thinking, I’ve had choir class but I just can’t seem
to get how to sing. I feel that I should be trained personally for help,
because I may practice your techniques the wrong way. But thinking I’m
doing it right. My main issue is I can’t open my throat. I use my talking
voice to sing.
Hi Ken,
My name is Alex and I dwell in Moscow. I am an aspiring singer and I think
I have the guts to become a very good one (if I master a correct
technique). I admire your timbre and your range and – above all – your
artistic passion and thank you for encouraging me and a whole lot of other
guys across the world to sing and believe in ourselves. I can tell that you
walk the walk and really can sing loud and pretty relaxed, but sometimes
with some distortion – something that I want to do as well, but get
strained and choke instead. By the way, I am very much influenced by
Michael Kiske and Sebastian Bach as well as other hard rock/metal singers.
My question is – is it possible to attend your tutorials in the USA and do
you have any at all (I mean you seem to be so popular that your time is
probably all booked up)? I believe that under the supervision of a
qualified vocal coach you can progress much faster without damaging your
voice ( I am currently taking some bel canto lessions, but all I really
want to perform is rock).
Thank you, Ken!
Best regards,
Alex
PS This Russian guy reminds me a little bit of you – check this out –
Exactly.
Hey brotherman :), I’ve always played guitar and always tried to sing
along, but after watching some stuff on here I’m actually getting better
:D, I’d just love to be able to belt out stuff like creedence and the
marshall tucker band – cant you see. Any help 😛 ? I have had no lessons at
all, it just kind of clicks after an hour so and I try and build upon it
aha
His normal voice while not singing sounds amazing already
RIp headphone users😰🎧
Beautiful voice
well my neighbours are all awake now :o
hahaahaha LOVED this: “singers are only singers because they have the guts
to be one”. This is why I’m never going to be a singer: I’m too shy!
Liked your videos but this video increased my respect for your insight
200%. I have seen people over the years overcome lack of natural ability in
many disciplines with education and perseverance and nice to see you really
get it. On the other end how many people who had natural talent lacked the
respect for their gift because they didn’t have to work for it and trampled
it underfoot.
Imagine what his neighbors thought of that. Haha
cool vid as he says go out and sing and be yourself anyone can sing, you’re
allowed Rock on
You could have given head phone users a warning before deafening us, lol.
You have an amazing voice, btw.
I was glad to hear you mention Dylan because most of these videos are very,
well, singer.
what if you don’t aspire to be on Broadway or in iron maiden, you like
stuff like frank turner and chuck ragan and just wonder – with no
experience at all – whether you can carry a tune?
When you sang, I made a huge smile like WOW.
my mom gets pissed when i practice my singing
Don’t some peoples falsetto blend with there chest voice so it makes them
sound like a good singer and sing easier my falsetto is not compatible with
my chest or middle voice?
I just found your channel, any advice on what video to start on? I’m not
currently a very good singer but I can play guitar confidently.
If you’re familiar with the concept of guitars you must be realizing that a superb guitarist starts his journey by playing some good songs for rookies.
When you hear a song on the radio for the first time, you don’t start singing along with it right away.
