  1. There’s a lot of ambiguous terminology when it comes to extreme vocal techniques, so you might be using the term “fry scream” differently than I’m used to using it. What Devin is doing I would describe more as just adding distortion to his clean voice (and possibly to his falsetto for the higher ones).
Fry screaming to me is one technique for unpitched harsh vocals but can be very damaging to your voice; however, most mainstream metal bands use fry vocals for their growls/screams because it’s easier. False chord technique is more difficult to develop; most lesser known bands (Devin included) use false chord technique for their growls and unpitched screams.

  2. Funny fact: Devin says he doesn’t have much idea about what he is doing when he sings. He just does it naturally. No singing classes or anything.

  3. I love this channel! Please please react to LP! Her live version of “lost on you” or the live “muddy waters”. They are not new songs but they are blowing up on Facebook right now.

  4. I never heard of this guy but damn his voice! I got chills for sure. Never would have heard of him if it wasn’t for your channel.

  5. Your channel is something completely AMAZING and INSTRUCTIVE ! Thank you Sam, you’re just a great human being !🤘🤘🤘🤘

  6. Really love your analysis. Very informed and well explained. Lots of great observations, such as his facial expressions and body stance.

  7. I have never heard of Devin Townsend before, but I really love his voice. Just subscribed to his channel, can’t wait to listen to more.

  8. Please do some Cory Taylor. Preferably songs that hit right between singing pretty and screaming. Maybe vermilion before I forget or devil in I

  9. Not sure if it has been mentioned but would be interesting to hear your thoughts on Trevor of The Black Dahlia Murder for the song Receipt or Widowmaker. His dueling vocals are impressive (to me at least).

  10. Love these videos dude, really good insight! I’d love to hear your reaction to The Messenger by Linkin Park, a really interesting showcase for Chester Bennington’s voice. Peace

  11. I’d be curious to see something on the degeneration of David Coverdale and Meat Loafs vocals and how it’s important to evolve your singing style as your range alters with age/misuse, ala Robert Plant
