Haborview Elementary School students on Thursday, May 3, sang Happy Birthday, in English then in Tlingit, to Rep. Bryce Edgmon during a bill signing.
Alaska Gov. Bill Walker, surrounded by students and legislators, signed House Bill 287 into law, the $1.2 billion state education budget.
The bill includes no increases or decreases from last year’s education budget but allows for an increase next year if lawmakers agree to a deal that limits their ability to take money from the Alaska Permanent Fund.
