You get the picture……..
Is it good enough, just to look pretty and use studio effects like pitch shifting etc to make you sound good. Could you pull a Britney Spears and get caught lip synching at live shows?
Or do you want to work on your craft, become a slave to your art and not need any of the “smoke and mirrors” techniques that pop singers use, because your voice sounds so good recorded that you don’t even need to double the part to make it sound big.
Could you picture yourself singing night after night for years and never losing or damaging your voice because you knew how to sing properly?
In this article, I want to share 3 tips that you can use to start you on the journey to becoming a professional singer and learning how to sing like a pro.
This may seem rather obvious, but its surprising how many singers don’t do this.
Think about a professional athlete or football player. They spend years learning the correct techniques of their sport and they invest in finding a good teacher or coach to teach them.
This is the same for singers – find a good teacher and coach. Learn correct singing technique so you don’t end up like so many young singers who are having vocal nodules and polyps removed in the early twenties, which really should be the start of their singing careers.
If you don’t believe me, check out this article on how singers like Adele are going under the knife to fix vocal problems caused by bad vocal technique.
I think the worst thing would be to have a promising singing career, lose your voice due to bad singing technique, then have to go back to a job you hate because your voice is destroyed.

How To Sing Like A Pro Tip #2 – Practice, Practice, Practice
There are two things you will need to practice:
1) Scales and Vocal Exercises – which help you to learn good technique as well as increase your range, power and tone
2) Repertoire – songs etc that you like to sing or will be performing
When first learning a good technique, you will most likely just practice scales and exercises, as these help you to learn how to sing without the difficulty of singing words.
When you are more comfortable with the technique, you can then start practicing more songs, making sure that you sing them with the correct technique in mind.
Most singers just sing songs and never do any scales and exercises. This is like playing football without ever doing any drills.

How To Sing Like A Pro Tip #3 – Get Out There And Perform
I have spoken to several so called singers who say they can sing, but then say they are too nervous to sing in front of an audience, so they never do.
If you say you are a singer, then you should be able to sing in front of people.
Regular performing helps you get over stage fright, and it also help control nerves so that you can sing confidently without a shaky voice etc.
A good way to get started is to learn a bunch of “standards” and then turn up to a jam night or open mic night at a pub/bar/club, and sing a few songs.
This will help you get used to performing without having to be able to sing 10 – 30 songs, which can take a singer some time to build up the necessary stamina to learn how to sing like a pro.
The end goal is to be able to perform comfortably in front of an audience so that you can forget about technique etc and really “feel” the song.
To really learn how to sing like a pro takes time, effort, sweat and generally the odd tear or two. For most people, there are no shortcuts and it really pays to learn good singing technique, so you can have longevity in the industry.
